Description: There had been rumours for months. Most people ignored them until the President of the United States of America was forced to acknowledge that an asteroid, even larger than the one that wiped out the dinosaurs, was on a collision path with Earth and that all attempts to divert the killer rock had so far failed.
Lucy Black was one of the ones that hadn't been paying attention. She thought life was looking up. She had a nice, decent boyfriend, was enjoying her life in Melbourne and she'd finally booked her holiday to Spain that she'd been planning for years. She had no idea that her father was listening, and preparing.
Sometimes Lucy wishes that the government had never come clean, and that life had just gone on as normal. But then she would have spent her last days working and worrying about problems that really didn't matter anymore when you were facing your impending doom. Finding out you're all probably going to die in two months was a quick way to discover how much everyone took for granted.
Lucy knows that her family are one of the lucky ones. They have a farm, away from the chaos of the cities, with abundant food and fuel, and good weather. She worries about her older sister, stuck in wintery Canada, who they haven't heard from in weeks, and friends she left behind in Melbourne.
