New Update for Book Collections App 8/20

A new update to Book Collections is here!

The Book Collections app is now better than ever! Featuring a ton of new features, including BOOK COVERS, sorting alphabetically by author or title, folders within folders, ability to move folders, search functions, ability to move multiple books in multiple folders, and more are included in the new Book Collections version 2.1.1.0!

A quick tip: the option to scan for book covers is one of the menu options.

We're confident people who already have the app will find it to be a big improvement. Sorting and organizing books will now be quicker and easier than ever. And if you don't have Book Collections on your Fire yet, there's never been a better time to get one!

If you already have the app and are waiting for the update, there are a few ways you might have to get it depending on how you have the settings on your Fire.

A. If you have your Fire set up to update apps automatically, you can either wait for it to come to your Fire or contact Amazon customer service to have them speed it along for you.

B. If you don't have it set so apps update automatically, check your App Updates folder in the Store on your Fire.
1. On your Fire, go to the Apps tab, then tap the Store button at the top.
2. In the store, tap the menu button with the three lines at the bottom. You'll see an option for App Updates to tap.
3. An update for Book Collections will be listed, which you'll then be able to update and install.

C. If you aren't concerned about losing saved data, you can uninstall and reinstall the app to get the new version.

D. If something above isn't working and you're unable to get it, giving a shout to Amazon customer service is the way to go.

Organizing your library of books on your Fire in whatever way you choose is now possible. Thank you again for your support, and enjoy the app!

  1. went there to get update.. and it told me i had no updates there was nothing to get.

    1. Yes, I'd recommend contacting customer service to have them speed along the update if you'd prefer not to wait until it does so automatically. If you don't have a lot of saved data, uninstalling and reinstalling is another option.

  2. Got my update. Now waiting to retrieve covers. Says if you have lots of books could take awhile. I have over 3k so I am patiently waiting. Love the new look. Still checking out the extras. Just wondering - Is it possible to be reading my kindle while it is retrieving the book covers? Or do I have to let it set and do what it has to do?

    1. Hi Donna, I honestly have no idea if the app will run in the background while scanning for covers. It's something you could experiment with, but my guess is it won't. Sorry. Might be best just to do it, set the device down and do something else for a bit, and then come back.

  3. I was wondering if/when this will be able to read and sort .azw books. I have a ton of them on my Kindle, and it would be nice if the app could recognize them. Thanks.

    1. Julieanne, we did include support for .azw and .azw3 formats in this new update. It should work fine.

  4. Downloaded mine today and spent hours creating folders and organizing my books. Worked really slick. Then it started sorting by itself. I would close a folder and go back to the main page and things were sorted in a crazy order. I physically sorted it myself and it just kept going back to some other kind of order (not title or author).

    Previous book titles that I fixed because it had titles like B004H0621Q....EBOK.PRC changed back to the wrong title. Very discouraging to have to do it again. Will this happen again when download covers or sort?

    1. Hi Cathy, sorry for the trouble. Considering the titles shouldn't have changed back in the first place, I can't say for sure whether it will happen again. If you want to leave your email address in a comment, we can try to figure out what's going on for you.

  5. I put my folders in alphabetical order. When I re-enter the app the folders are no longer in alphabetical order. Is there a way to save it, or I am doing something wrong

  6. How do I find out which version of Book Collections is on my Fire? No "update" appears when I check for it so perhaps it's the latest. It does have the "Retrieve Covers" option from the menu, but no covers have appeared. Any suggestions? Thanks.

    1. Hi Deborah, if there's a Retrieve Covers option, you definitely have the latest version. Are you saying that tapping the Retrieve Covers option or tapping on book in the lists don't make any covers appear? The covers do have to be scanned in separately from the books themselves.     1. So what happened when you tapped on the Retrieve Covers option? It did nothing? Froze? Crashed? If you give us your email address, we can send you a test version that'll tell us more if you're having a problem. Sorry for the confusion/trouble.

  8. I'm assuming that, after tapping the Retrieve Covers option, thumbnails should appear in the gray rectangles to the left of the book titles. Is that correct? If so, they aren't there. What do you mean by scanned in separately? Should we do something other than tap on Scan? I've done that and still no book covers. I'm reluctant to include my email address on this public forum. So thanks for any help you can give me.

    1. There are two different functions for importing books and importing the covers. Scan in the top left is for books and Retrieve Cover in the bottom right imports the covers. Try the Retrieve Cover option, let us know what happens, and send an email to medianlinetech@gmail.com if there's a problem and we'll try to sort out what's going on.

    2. Mine finally works, I think. I had open each individual book, and then the thumbnail covers - for those that have them - appeared to the left of the title. Big improvement over just the list. Thanks.

  9. I'm having a similar problem. Have about 600 books. Tap the retrieve covers option, I get the time limit warning, but when I hit okay, I get a box that flashes too quick to read, and then nothing.

  10. Ok... I got the covers to work, kind of. They are there when I choose a book, but when just listed it's still a grey square. Should they be showing instead of the grey squares?

    1. Hi Oliver, thanks for your message and sorry for the trouble. So you're saying that the book cover appears above the menu, but not as a thumbnail in the list? That's the first I've heard of that. When you open the book, does a cover appear on the first page?     2. I have the same situation on mine. There is no thumbnail in the list but when you touch the title to open it the cover shows. Also where do you find what version you have of this app. I appear to have the current one & yet I haven't done anything to update it & it wasn't in my list of app updates today. Thank you, Jeanne

    3. Hi Jeanne, sorry for the trouble. Having these problems seemingly come out of nowhere does make me think something's wrong on Amazon's end, but if you want you can email us and we'll send you a version to sideload, which should take care of the issue. Sorry again!
