Pyramix: Today's Free App, Plus BOTD: When Horses Had Wings

Gotta start today with a huge Thank You to everyone for making yesterday's announcement for our Kindle Fire Giveaway so successful! More congratulations to Ginny are in order, and for those who didn't win we wish you better luck next time. A quick bit of news: software update 6.2.2 is on the horizon. Looks for details on that later this afternoon, but first don't miss out on today's free app and book of the day!

Today's bargain book of the day comes to us from author Diana Estill. Her novel When Horses Had Wings has an incredibly high rating and an incredibly touching story that goes along with it. But don't think her story about the troubled life of a pregnant teen will be completely depressing and painful. Estill's actually got a background as a humor writer, and I've got a feeling some of that will shine through in this novel in the form of triumph over adversity and a satisfying climax. Do yourself a favor and give this one a look!

Name: When Horses Had Wings
Rating: 4.8 stars over 15 reviews
Price: 2.99
Description: Pregnant at 16, Renee Goodchild drops out of school and marries. Now she’s trapped in rural Texas with Kenny, her violent, garbage-collecting husband. A bleak future seems assured until she meets self-appointed relationship guru, Pearly.

“That’s why you don’t let ‘em rule the roost. ’Cause you can’t count on ‘em to be there the next mornin’ when it’s time to crow,” the worldly Pearly advises.

Renee narrates this tale of ruin and redemption where the damaged and downtrodden lead each other to unintended, sometimes heartbreaking, and often bittersweet outcomes. When Horses Had Wings examines the lives of broken people competing for the most basic needs: the primal urge for affection and the eternal search for acceptance.

Reviews: "While "When Horses Had Wings" is certainly a poignant tale, it is not a depressing, oppressive book. This is largely due in part, I think, to the wonderful prose found in the story. Ms. Estill is a true wordsmith and not only did I enjoy the actual story itself, it was a separate pleasure just to read the words. The story is narrated by Renee, and her self-deprecating nature ensured that even a good bit of humor found its way into the book. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Estill's work."

Rating: 2.7 stars over 34 reviews
Price: 0.00
Description: Word game aficionados, meet your latest challenge. Pyramix, a "word enigma generator" for your Android device, is an addictive game that combines code-deciphering strategy with the simplicity of classic grid-based word games.

Drawing from a jumbled assortment of letters, try to find the right letter combinations to solve unique four-word puzzles. Play against a timer or work in untimed mode, and take in the mysterious-looking graphics and evocative sound effects.

The pyramid-shaped game board consists of four empty, horizontally-stacked rows. At the bottom of the board, you'll see a mirror image of the top rows--but these rows contain jumbled letters. To build a word at the top, take any letter from the bottom and drop it in the space you choose.
