Great Holiday Apps for the Kindle Fire

With the holidays just around the corner, the interest in holiday related apps is predictably reaching a peak. There are a lot of them out there though, all anxiously waiting to get onto your Kindle Fire. Here we'll pick a few favorites, and it might not be surprising that some of these apps are the same stories I used to watch as a kid this time of year. It's exciting to be able to say goodbye to that rickety old VHS tape and share a classic like How the Grinch Stole Christmas on a new medium with kids who are sure to love it.

Before we get into the apps, it's good to note that there's a special Amazon Holiday Section, with great deals on Holiday Toys and books like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Cabin Fever (for 50% off!).

But back to the apps, this first one is a new release that looks really good and seems popular from the rank. Why didn't they think of making a game about elves delivering presents before? This app doesn't have any reviews yet, so write something if you try it!

Name: Arthur Christmas: Elf Run
Reviews: New Release!
Price: 0.99
Description: Have you ever wanted to deliver presents on Christmas? Now you can, with Arthur Christmas: Elf Run. Jump, dive, and crawl through houses as quickly and quietly as possible to deliver gifts to children around the world. Don’t crash into anything, and feed the pets to keep them quiet or you’ll get a Waker and it’s Mission Terminated!

Finish before sunrise or you’ll get caught. Get faster times on early missions to bank time you’ll need to complete later missions. Running out of time? Call the S-1 to extend your in-game time.

Collect Treats throughout missions and spend them on elves for your squad and to upgrade their abilities. Faster elves lead to more successful missions. Enlist up to seven different elves to successfully complete all 30 missions. Use your OpenFeint account to earn Achievements and sprint your way to the top of the Leaderboards. Good luck, Elf, and leave no child behind!

Then there's the holiday version of Angry Birds. Great for new levels of one of the best game out there, with a touch of holiday flavor. What this app really needs though is a way to cook the birds for Christmas dinner. Mmm, poultry and ham.

Name: Angry Birds Seasons
Reviews: 2.8 stars over 426 reviews
Price: 0.99
Description: The holidays have arrived, but the poor birds still can't catch a break from the tricks of those greedy green pigs in Angry Birds Seasons. In their latest adventure, Wreck the Halls, the avian avengers tackle 25 festive new levels teeming with gingerbread cookies, bells, twinkling lights, and candy canes.

Just as in the original Angry Birds, the pigs hoodwink the peace-loving flock out of their precious eggs, leaving them with nothing but a powerful thirst for revenge. It's time to bring back their unique brand of weaponry--the finger-powered slingshot--and unleash an arsenal of angry artillery in this package of nine seasonal adventures for the world's most popular physics-based casual game.
